Each boat has at least three fenders between the dock and the hull.

  • If the fender is deflated, this should be reported to the boat manager.

  • We use the clove hitch or the round turn and two half hitches to attach the fenders. You can also use ground-line hitch.

  • The fenders should be hanged so that they do not touch the water but stay low enough to stay between the boat and the dock to prevent the hull from touching the dock.

  • The fenders should be attached to a cleat or other strong attachment point on the boat. If there is no cleat available, then they can be attached to a hard metal rail or the base of the stanchions. We don't hang the fenders off the lifelines.

  • Once the boat is underway, the fenders should be taken off and stowed in the lazarette. We don't recommend stowing the fenders on deck.
